PMO Lead – Consulting
An exciting opportunity for an experienced PMO professional to establish and lead the Project Management Office for a growing consulting business.
Working at the heart of a newly formed consulting team, the PMO Lead will create the structure, governance and visibility required to successfully manage a growing portfolio of client engagements.
This is a broad, hands-on role combining portfolio oversight, project governance, commercial reporting, resource coordination and stakeholder management. You will work closely with consulting leadership, project teams, specialist resources and senior client stakeholders to ensure projects are effectively mobilised, appropriately resourced and delivered against agreed commercial and client outcomes.
As the PMO function is being developed, this role would suit someone who enjoys creating structure within an evolving environment and can introduce robust processes without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and manage the PMO, providing a clear and accurate view of consulting opportunities and active engagements.
- Develop practical governance, reporting and stage-gate processes across the project lifecycle.
- Track project scope, milestones, deliverables, risks, dependencies, actions and key decisions.
- Coordinate resources and stakeholders across the consulting team and wider Group businesses.
- Prepare and manage project reviews, governance meetings and steering forums.
- Monitor project budgets, forecasts, utilisation, resource costs and overall commercial performance.
- Support accurate time recording, invoicing and revenue forecasting.
- Produce concise management information and reporting covering pipeline, project health, utilisation and portfolio performance.
- Develop and embed PMO templates, dashboards, tools and best-practice processes.
About you
We are looking for a PMO, programme office or portfolio management professional who combines excellent project discipline with strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills. Ideally you will have worked in an agency or consulting environment previously.
The following is essential;
- Previous experience establishing or operating a PMO, Programme Office or Portfolio Management function.
- Experience managing oversight of multiple projects or workstreams within consulting, professional services, transformation or a similar project-led environment.
- Strong project planning, governance, reporting and risk management experience.
- Experience of resource planning, utilisation tracking and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
- Good commercial understanding, including project budgets, forecasting, scope management and project economics.
- Confidence working with senior leadership and client stakeholders.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain oversight of multiple moving parts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the judgement to identify what senior stakeholders need to know.
- Strong knowledge of standard project management, reporting and collaboration tools.
Most importantly, you will be comfortable joining a business at an exciting stage of development. You will be someone who can take ownership, bring clarity to ambiguity and build a PMO framework that supports growth while remaining practical and commercially focused.
This is an excellent opportunity to shape a PMO function from the outset and play a pivotal role in the development of a growing consulting business.
